All-Stars 2013 Recap

By Steve Shahin

As another All Star season ends we look back at some of the exciting times.  As your extended play coordinator I was eager to see how our teams perform during the tough All Star season, and as always I witnessed as our coaches taught our players the importance of Good Sportsmanship in the game of Soccer.  Our goals as teachers of the game are to develop our players and compete.  And I am happy to say that our coaches, players and teams did that to the best of their abilities

Our Section teams did well and a few came down to the final week of pool play in order to make Area playoff contention.  Our BU12 team was the only Section team to place top four in Area play. In the playoffs coach Nestor and Adam Serrano did a fantastic job by finishing 3rd at the hands of a historically tough Boyle Heights team, and it was coach Adam stepping in for a flu bitten coach on game day.  Now that’s perfect team work, great job team.

BU12 Section Team

Our Area teams had two finalists qualify for Area playoffs GU12 and GU10.  The GU12 team finished 2nd overall in Area.  Head coach Debra Garcia and assistant Juan Jiminez had the team leading the game for the first have 1-0. Our young ladies fought tenaciously but went down 3-1 in the end.  The girls played with toughness embedded in them by the coaching staff and the players came within a hair of taking 1st place. Well done.

  GU12 Area Team

The GU10Area team, coached by Mike Kielty and Art Gonzales, continued a growth curve that ended with the girls winning their championship game 3-0 to a tough Pasadena team.  Coach Mike gives all the credit to his players, rightfully so, but good teams normally have good leadership, coaches and parents alike, and it showed with this team.  Congratulations to our GU10 Area team for 1st place in Area play.

GU10 Area Team - Champs!

The final team to qualify for Area playoffs was our GU12 Regional team.  The team did very well from start to finish.  Once in the playoffs the girls played their final two games in epic style, ending both games tied after regulation and overtime, both final games had to be decided by shots from the mark, and in both games, painfully, heartbreak landed on the side of Alhambra.  Coaches Rolando Morales and Blanca Bocanegra did a great job of leading their teams.  The team finished 4th overall, great job.
